Viola Davis has made Emmys history.
The "How To Get Away With Murder" actress took home the award for outstanding lead actress in a drama series.
Davis is the first black woman to ever win the category and began her moving acceptance speech by quoting Harriet Tubman.
“In my mind I see a line, and over that line I see green fields, and lovely flowers, and beautiful white women with their arms stretched out to me over the line, but I can’t seem to get there no-how. I can’t seem to get over that line," she said.

The 50-year-old actress told the crowd "the only thing that separates women of color from anyone is opportunity."
"You cannot win an Emmy for roles that are simply not there. So here's to all the writers, the awesome people."
Her emotional words continued to pour out as she concluded by thanking her fellow leading ladies some of whom were watching from their seats with tears in their eyes.
“To the Taraji P. Hensons, the Kerry Washingtons, the Halle Berrys, the Nicole Beharies, the Meagan Goods to Gabrielle Union. Thank you for taking us over that line.”
